On behalf of SBX, we regret to inform you all we lost our brother this morning. Hunter, we love you and we always will, but we’re glad you’re no longer in pain. You have always been such an inspirational force in our lives and will continue to be. Our thoughts and love go out to Marley, Laura and the rest of Hunters family.

Hunter was diagnosed with terminal cancer in November 2009.
A veteran of Australian Hip Hop, he made his mark as a freestyle and battle MC in the early 1990s before going on to host several successful radio shows in Perth. His 2006 release, Going Back to Yokine, gave voice to the burgeoning hip hop scene in Western Australia, and was nominated for a Western Australian Music Industry Award in the same year.
As part of the legendary Syllabolix crew, Hunter has released a total of four albums. His most recent release, Fear And Loathing, sees him team up with producer Mortar, as the two explore the slow shift from carefree days of boozing and partying to the colder truths of ill health, relationship struggles and depression. Five years in the making, the album features SBX crew-mates Layla, Dazastah, Optamus and Graphic, and the Hilltop Hoods.
In the two years since he was diagnosed with cancer, Hunter has been collaborating with documentary film makers from Periscope Pictures as they chart his journey from diagnosis to treatment to living each day as it comes. On hearing of Hunter‘s diagnosis, the Australian hip hop community banded together to raise money for the MC and ultimately for his young son. In an eBay auction that lasted a little over a week, more than $11,000 was raised through the donation and subsequent sale of rare local releases, signed merch and records. Hunter is a man close to the hearts of everyone in his community and his struggles have brought out the best in both himself and the people around him.
